Match 7: Peru 0-1 Denmark

Peru certainly had the better of the opening 25 minutes and often exposed the Danish right side. However, the Danes slowly awoke and began to find Christian Eriksen in open space in midfield. It will be a big blow that they lost William Kvist to injury during the first half and with Lasse Schone replacing him, one might find the Danes having more attacking intent in the second half. But Age Hareide’s men will be thanking their lucky stars for Peru’s wasted penalty.

“They (Peru) did a lot to try and get an equaliser, and you have to give credit to the defence and whole team. I think it is our fifth game without conceding a goal and it is very tough to play against World Cup opponents and do that.”Age Hareide, Denmark coach

“We were playing against Denmark who are truly a great side. There was a great atmosphere in the stadium and that means we want to perform. We knew we would have great support, but we didn’t’ think there would be so many people having to travel so far.”

Ricardo Gareca, Peru coach
