KKR started their innings silently with a maiden over by Trent Boult. Hits and misses by both the openers, Narine and Lynn was building up the pressure. A brilliant bouncer by Boult saw Narine returning back scoring only a lone run. Uthappa came in and released the pressure by tinking more than a few sixes and getting the run rate up. Lynn looked out of sorts as he was looking to hit every ball for a six and failing in it every time. Uthappa got out and out came Nitish Rana. Rana played strategically, checking the fielder’s position before every bowl. Karthik chiped in with a 10-ball 19 and then came Russell power in all its glory.
He tonked every ball for a maximum and was a joy to watch with the 70,000-odd Kolkata crowd right behind him. He scored a 12-ball 41 and got bowled by a perfect yorker from Boult. There was a small downslide of sorts at the end but they managed to post a dominating total of 200 runs.
DD started their innings with Jason Roy getting out to a brilliantly bowled wide ball by Chawla with the captain whipping the bails out in a flash. The in-form man was gone. Russell came to bowl the second over and was taken to the cleaners by both Iyer and Gambhir but he came back strongly hitting the deck hard and a getting a wicket beacuse of a not-so-confident shot by Iyer and a brilliant catch by Rana at slips. Pant and Maxwell kept up with the required run rate hitting a couple of boundaries each over, but the chinaman, Kuldeep took the game away by striking out Pant at deep mid-wicket at the hands of Chawla. After Tewatia’s wicket to Curren’s bowling, DD were at 99/5 after 10 overs. Maxwell after a hitting spree got out to Kuldeep.
Every time a wicket fell, the crowd erupted and it was a sight to watch. You can barely hear the commentators with the background noise of the big crowd.
Sunil Narine got his 100th wicket of his IPL tenure and in the same over got his 101st and the 102nd too.
Delhi Daredevils lost the match by 71 runs. KKR got their batting line-up to the mark and the results were there to see. Kuldeep and Narine both finished with 3 wickets each for a spectacular win.
